ASSOCIATION BABU NEPAL is a long-standing registered French charity which was made official in 2012 by Lily LAFOND and Christiane HUET, both former primary school teachers who have been teaching both in France and abroad for over 30 years. Lily has been traveling to Nepal for over 20 years now and lives there half of the year, mostly in the Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara and Trishuli areas. Lily has a broad understanding of the local customs and traditions and way of life. She has contributed to helping various schools, teachers and pupils alike acquire more equipment and knowledge through ASSOCIATION BABU NEPAL.
During her many trips, Lily quickly noticed the overwhelming dedication and efforts and excellent work local Nepalese teachers and headmasters provided children with despite very limited ressources compared to what she was used to in other countries. Over the years, Lily decided to do what she could to bring pens, books and copybooks to Nepalese children…but her rucksacks soon proved too small to be efficient. So she and a friend decided to set up ASSOCIATION BABU NEPAL in Arles, in Southern France, in order to try and make people more aware of the situation of Nepalese schools, around them first, and further afield at a later stage. They collect donations and equipment year round in France, and then take it or send it to Nepal. Lily, once on site in September, hands out the material collected and financially contributes to school fees to enable local pupils attend school.
ASSOCIATION BABU NEPAL has set up partnetships between Nepalese schools and companies and acts as a middleman between volunteers in France and Nepalese schools and a number of private companies. Teenagers, students eager to carry out useful, unforgettable work placements through humanitarian missions in Nepalese schools are welcome to apply for a position. Placements are available throughout the year, as per the ethics of ASSOCIATION BABU NEPAL.
We endeavour to find work placements in Nepal for French students in the following areas:
– HOTEL INDUSTRY
– EVENTS PLANNING AND ORGANISING
– WATER AND FORESTS MANAGEMENT
– WASTE COLLECTION AND RECYCLING
– HUMAN RESOURCES
– INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Successful applicants will be entrusted with a mission in a local school or company in Kathmandu, Pokhara or Trishuli, and will help with a number of tasks, such as teaching English, French or Maths, or helping children with activities, painting or DIY.
French volunteers may be accommodated in local Nepalese families. The current daily cost for food and accommodation in a host family is EUR 15 per person.
